North East firms set to expand number of employees in 2015, research suggests

Companies across the North East are set for an employment boom in 2015, recent research from CBI/Accenture has been able to reveal.

The Employment Trends Survey polled 76 businesses that employ staff in the region and found that 55 per cent expect their workforce to grow in number over the next year.

Job prospects for young people also have improved with many of these companies planning to recruit graduates and apprentices.

Dianne Sharp, director of CBI North East, said companies in the region are "gearing up for a positive 2015".

"We want to see everyone enjoy the rewards of the recovery and the North East has a big role in driving the UK economy forward," she added.

"Growth should work for everyone, and skills are the key route to ensuring that this happens through improved productivity and pay."
