New restaurant set to open in Newcastle

A new restaurant is set to open at the heart of Newcastle’s Osborne Road as part of a £5m development, a recent ness report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The leisure and hospitality operator Malhotra Group has unveiled plans to refurbish its New Northumbria Hotel site with the first phase – set to open at the end of March – being El Paso; a 100-cover restaurant specialising in dishes with a Spanish and Mexican influence.

The venue, which will create ten jobs, will also feature a private dining area for parties and celebrations.

El Paso will replace the existing Scalini’s.

The project is the brainchild of director of operations Atul Malhotra, who said: "We have spent several months conducting focus groups and gathering feedback and we are confident El Paso will be a welcome and successful addition to Jesmond’s thriving hospitality scene."

Further changes at the venue will include the creation of 13 apartment rooms and a wedding suite. The reception area will also undergo a full refurbishment with the addition of a residents’ lounge and new conferencing facilities. The car park to the rear of the block will also be developed.
