Major retailer set to create 150 new jobs in North East

One of the UK’s largest home, garden and leisure retailers have revealed plans to open their third North East store later this year in a move that will create 150 jobs in Longbenton, a news report in the local business media was able to reveal.

The Range exchanged contracts for a 15-year lease on the unit at Whitley Road Retail and Leisure Park last year after the property’s owner entered administration. The Range will launch the 40,100 sq ft store in August, investing up to £1.8m in refitting the premises.

The move was finalised last week (19 May 2014) when north Tyneside Council approved an application from The Range to drop restrictions on the type of goods that could be sold at the unit.

Chris Dawson, owner of The Range, said: "I would like to thank the council for welcoming us and being so supportive. We feel that The Range is a unique shopping experience that has something for everyone and we are confident that the people of Longbenton will enjoy what The Range has to offer.
