Banking group to create 200 new jobs in Sunderland

One of the UK’s best-known banking groups will be creating more than 200 new jobs in Sunderland throughout 2015, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

Barclays will establish a centre of excellence for fraud detection in the city, with the new jobs created on this site consisting of a a mixture of management, team leader and frontline call centre positions. The new offices will handle calls with Barclays customers worldwide whose bank accounts or cards have suffered potential fraud.

The centre of excellence will be based at Doxford International Business Park and will be operational by June. Christine Allenson, Barclays Sunderland site president, said that the banking group will be recruiting for the 200 jobs "every month for the rest of the year".

"Realistically it’ll be slightly more than 200 jobs and they will all be in place by December. Once we’re up and running, we’ll look at taking on more staff on top of those jobs. The potential to do that will certainly be there."
