Bank House office development planned for Newcastle city centre
New images have been shared of a planned 14-storey office scheme in Newcastle city centre.
A public consultation of the plans is scheduled from 1pm on Wednesday 16 January and Thursday 17 January, at Coopers Studios on Westgate Road.
The name of the proposed scheme is Bank House, and it is located at the place where Pilgrim Street meets the Swan House roundabout. The site was previously occupied by the Bank of England.
The developer, Taras Properties, intends to turn the Bank House development into a gateway to the city centre, as part of a wider aim to regenerate the East Pilgrim Street area.
To this end, improvements will also be made to public space, such as planting, new seating areas and realignment of the junction of Pilgrim Street with the 55 Degrees roundabout.
Bank House will consist of 10,000 sq ft of open plan office space, and then retail units available on the ground floor.
Commercial and project management advice on the scheme is being provided by GVA, with architectural design by Ryder Architecture and engineering input from Arup.
The regional senior director of GVA, Gordon Hewling, said: "This exciting proposal to create a new landmark office building on the Bank of England site is another step towards transforming East Pilgrim Street, which will enhance Newcastle City Centre’s attractiveness as both a leisure and business destination."
A spokesperson from Ryder Architecture added: "This is a key development opportunity for Newcastle and will act as a catalyst for the revival of Pilgrim Street as a vibrant part of the city core with improved access, high quality public realm and civic space befitting a key city centre gateway."

______________
The Bank House development will have a large amount of open-plan office space. It is very beneficial for this sort of multi-use site to install an effective visitor monitoring system, in order to minimise accidental disruptions from people ending up in the wrong place, and enable an up to date list of occupants for health and safety and security purposes.
Time and Attendance North East offers our Management of Contractors and Visitors Software (MCVS) as part of our time and attendance software, which gives you a simple and secure digital system to record visitors.
This network-based application allows you to advance book visitor appointments and pre-book on site contractors, using either the PC based application or a user’s Internet browser.
Unlike the typical paper “sign-in book”, this method complies with GDPR because visitors can’t see each other’s data and it is only kept for as long as it is required.
If there is no reception area in the open plan workspace, or if there is not a designated receptionist, we can also offer you the Self Service Visitor Management App. This enables visitors to check themselves in for appointments using a touchscreen. The system then emails the person who will be hosting them, and logs the visitor in.
Using our software and these apps, which can be accessed from the web or a mobile phone, you can gather and manage data on your employees’ attendance and workday timing, such as the length of their lunch breaks. Many office-based workplaces don’t believe in the usefulness of time monitoring, but we think differently.
It doesn’t have to be Big Brother – you don’t even need to take action on your data if you don’t want to. However, we know from experience that companies find the data we can offer them very useful in building up a bigger picture of punctuality and productivity.
