Production efficiency targeted at Northumberland facility
AkzoNobel, a global paint manufacturer giant headquartered in the Netherlands, has created new production roles in its Ashingon facility in order to fulfil new contracts and a rise in demand.
22 production operative roles have been made, which is a whole new production shift. The production plant opened in 2017, and was the largest ever investment made by AkzoNobel.
Jeff Hope, head of manufacturing, said: "Production at Ashington is going from strength to strength.
"The introduction of an additional shift to our current production rota provides us with around 50 per cent more manufacturing time. We are also working hard to increase the efficiency and productivity of our operations and increase the time that the plant is actively making paint."
Shirley Spoors, the site production manager, added: "This is a really exciting time for the site. The 22 new production operatives have all been trained in-house and are already working regular shift patterns.
"We are pushing the limits of what our production lines can achieve and so far, we are delighted with the results."

AkzoNobel want to increase the productivity and efficiency of their Ashington production facility, in order to maximise the amount of paint which can be produced.
An often overlooked way to maximise the amount of time that your workforce spend on the production floor is to install a good up to date time and attendance management system.
Many production facilities still rely on old punch-card systems, or other types of clocking technology which are slow and often inaccurate. This can cause long queues at the entrance and exit, wasting time that they could be spending productively instead.
If your employees also have to clock in and out for their half an hour lunchtime, clocking queues could mean a drastically shortened break-time, which would lead to grumpy, demotivated staff.
No-one is denying that production facilities need a reliable method to monitor attendance and hours worked, but we are saying that there’s got to be a better way.
Our clocking terminals are the answer to this kind of problem. The terminals are compatible with two methods of clocking-in.
Firstly, the radio-frequency smart-cards. These “contactless” cards are credit-card sized, and thin enough to be kept in a wallet or pocket if desired. The card readers can register the cards through those sorts of coverings, as long as they’re not metal.
The cards register in roughly a quarter of second, so can be held up to the reader without even breaking your stride. They have a theoretically infinite lifespan, and if an employee loses one, the unique number on that card can be easily changed so that the lost card does not work anymore, eliminating security risks.
Secondly, we offer biometrics in the form of fingerprint readers. The ievo ultimate readers can read fingerprints through dust, dirt, or oil, and detects liveness to guard against biometric fraud. They can work in temperature extremes of -20 to 70 degrees Celsius.
