Smart meter installers to create multiple jobs after securing investment
A Newcastle-based smart meter specialist company is to create multiple jobs after securing a £500,000 investment from a consortium of private investors, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to suggest.
Blue Square Utilities, a smart meter installation business servicing small to medium sized energy suppliers throughout the UK, employs 65 smart meter engineers working across the North on three utility contracts and has a two-year growth plan in line with the government’s Smart Meter Rollout initiative. As such, it will be building a workforce of more than 300 staff, including 100 apprentices.
Tim Cantle-Jones, chief executive of Blue Square Utilities, said: "With the support of investors, we have been able to secure contracts and recruit a skilled workforce, with a view to achieving sustained profitable growth. The smart meter roll out represents a huge opportunity for a business such as ours to become established as a key national player in the energy infrastructure sector."
The consortium of investors was led by Scottish Angel network TRICAPITAL, whose chairman Jamie Andrew added: "We have been impressed with Tim Cantle-Jones’s vision for the company and the benefits the company brings to the wider community through its smart meter installation service.
"We wish Tim and his team every success in executing his growth plan."
