County Durham glass supplier set to relocate to bigger premises

Companies planning to relocate to bigger premises in order to accommodate for new business requirements should also use this opportunity in order to assess whether their existing time and attendance and access control systems are still fit for purpose or new ones are required.

This is also the case with County Durham glass company Peterlee Glass, which is readying for a multimillion-pound relocation after enjoying a successful 2016.

Peterlee Glass was founded by late businessman David Hawes in 1977 before being acquired by Brownhills Investments in 2015. Hawes’ son Graeme now heads up the business.

The architectural glass panel-producer is moving to a 60,000 sq ft facility on the North West Industrial Estate and will spend £1m on refurbishments. A further £1.3m will be spent on new equipment and machinery.

The factory should be ready for occupation by Peterlee Glass in April.

Graeme Hawes said: "Since we were acquired in 2015 we’ve grown rapidly and have reached the point where we’ve outgrown our existing premises.

"This move, alongside major capital investment, will enable us to continue to expand, adding even bigger contracts to our already significant portfolio of national and international clients and recruiting talented people who can help us achieve our ambitious targets.

"It’s fitting that this relocation is happening in the year we celebrate our 40th birthday, and I’m sure my dad would be really proud of how the business has grown since it started in 1977."
