Taxi company to run ‘Back to Work’ scheme, create up to 100 jobs

A Tees Valley taxi company has decided to run a ‘Back to Work’ pilot scheme that could create 100 jobs in the region, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

Boro Taxis has a fleet of 700 taxis and has pledged its support to provide training for unemployed individuals, including a level 2 BTEC certificate in introduction of the role of the professional taxi and private hire driver.

After two open days, 37 people have signed up to the scheme, which will be conducted from Boro Taxi’s base in Cargo Fleet, Middlesbrough.

Mohammed Bashir, founder of Boro Taxis, said: "The company has grown so much and is keen to provide new opportunities. As a proud Teessider, I wanted to help local people looking for work by furnishing them with the skills and knowhow to pursue a career in the private hire industry.

"Those who pass the BTEC and meet the necessary standards and regulatory checks will be guaranteed a job with us."
